Caren Alpert has spent the last decade capturing mostly recognizable images of food. Now, by taking photographs with an electron microscope, she has shifted her attention to what we never actually see: the hidden landscapes, patterns, and textures of what we eat. These images are simultaneously mysterious and familiar, deconstructing, abstracting, and revealing the ordinary from an extraordinary perspective. "The closer the lens got, the more I saw food--and consumers of food--as part of a larger, complex ecosystem."

Who is TED? TED isn't a who, it's a what. TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. Three broad subject areas that are shaping the future. TED is known around the world for "ideas worth spreading." TEDxSanJoseCA is an independently produced offspring of the annual TED gathering of big brains and cool creators. We bring people together to share a TED-like experience. The results are unexpected connections, extraordinary insights and unforgettable moments...

What's with the X? We are the X. We are the multipliers. The catalysts. The connectors. We come together to collaborate, to share fresh ideas and to inspire us to make a difference. We are optimistic about our future. We are the people who are making it happen. We believe this is an idea worth spreading.
TED has grown to support world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. TED speakers include famous people. They include Al Gore, Jane Goodall, Jill Bolte Taylor, Dean Kamen, Elizabeth Gilbert, Ken Robinson, Steven Hawking and Hans Rosling. They also include people you've never heard of before. These are the hidden gems and many times they have the biggest impact.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead
